I want to make a living making games like Genshin and The Legend of Zelda.

I think that many novice game developers aim to develop games that they once played and longed to play. (That includes me)

If you are making games as a hobby, that's fine.

However, the results of game development seem to vary greatly depending on the genre.

I myself am one of those who aim to make a living from game development, and I am learning more about game development every day.

In the process, I've compiled a list of what I've learned about game genres that small individuals should work on, and I'd like to share it with you in hopes that it will help you.

The contents of this article are not necessarily meant to denigrate other genres, and I hope you will take it only as a guideline to increase the chances of success for individual game developers. There is no such thing as 100% in life.

Since it is more beneficial for an individual game developer to have a large number of challenges in a short period of time, this article will only deal with the mobile game genre.

Game genres that individual developers should work on

So what game genres should we be developing?

Known games such as chess, mahjong, othello, playing cards, etc.

Since the game content is widely known, we can expect an influx of users from the store search.

Also, the content of the game is likely to match the user's expectations, making it easy to install.

(Because of its popularity, there is a lot of competition. However, once you establish your popularity, there is stability.)

Genres with magazines in bookstores (gambling, puzzles, military, horse racing, fortune telling, etc.)

Gambling, for example, has a particularly high billing rate because users are accustomed to spending money.

Military elements are also good to incorporate into the game.

Boyfriend romance, Three Kingdoms History

A certain market has been formed, so it is easy to make sales.

8 bit

People who have been playing the game for a long time are likely to feel nostalgic and play it. It is said that just changing the look of an app to pixel art can increase app installs by 1000.

Escape game

Escape games are finished once they are cleared, so users who like escape games are always looking for new escape games.

What did you think? I would be happy if I could be of any help to you.

From now on, I would like to develop games in the above genres to put what I have learned into practice.
